Program Availability

This program is designed and available only to Aerocadet's graduates from either our Full Professional Pilot Programs in the United States ("FPAP-US"), or European Union ("FPAP-EU") or Canada ("FPAP-C").

How does this program achieve Your Singapore Airlines career objectives?

Singapore Airlines is one of the world’s premier legacy carriers, renowned for its exceptional service standards and modern wide-body fleet — including the Airbus A380-800, A350 (including Ultra Long Range variants), Boeing 777-300ER, and Boeing 787-10 — and for recruiting talented pilots from diverse backgrounds worldwide to operate its Singapore-based long-haul and ultra-long-haul network.

Unlike many leading wide-body carriers, Singapore Airlines does not require any jet experience for the Direct Entry Second Officer Program, but maintains a highly structured and competitive multi-stage pilot assessment process. Selection normally takes place in Singapore and includes online aptitude tests (typically Aon/Cut-e), interviews with senior management (HR + technical), a simulator assessment, and a final medical check-up. The simulator profile evaluates handling skills, procedures, decision-making, and trainability, and can be challenging to pass without targeted, airline-specific preparation.

At Aerocadet, we offer a comprehensive Singapore Airlines Direct Entry Second Officer Assessment Preparation Program tailored to the airline’s current evaluation format. The program features realistic simulator profile practice (aligned with SIA’s expectations), technical review sessions matching SIA’s knowledge standards, aptitude test familiarization, and structured interview coaching. Our objective is to help experienced pilots attend the assessment fully prepared, confident, and familiar with the exact performance benchmarks expected by the airline.

Career Progression and Pay

Singapore Airlines offers a clear and structured career path for its pilots (very similar to Singapore Airlines), progressing from Second Officer to First Officer and finally to Captain. The speed of progression depends on individual performance, seniority, fleet requirements, and operational demands.

Second Officer (Entry Level) Most direct-entry pilots begin their career at Singapore Airlines as a Second Officer. In this role, they primarily support long-haul operations, acting as a relief pilot and handling cruise sectors while building experience toward full First Officer qualification. Pilots typically spend 6–18 months (sometimes less) in this rank before upgrading. Target annual earnings for Second Officers are approximately SGD 75,000–90,000+ (including basic pay and allowances), with a monthly training allowance provided during initial phases. Benefits at this level include comprehensive medical coverage, travel concessions, insurance, and a 7-year bond from appointment as First Officer. Singapore’s tax environment is favourable for residents.

First Officer (Junior and Senior) After gaining sufficient line experience and completing required training, Second Officers upgrade to First Officer. In this position, pilots become fully qualified co-pilots responsible for takeoffs, landings, and all flight duties across SIA’s fleet. The upgrade from Second Officer to First Officer usually takes 6–24 months depending on the individual and fleet needs. Target annual salary for new First Officers starts around SGD 94,000–108,000, rising to SGD 150,000–195,000+ with productivity allowances, long-haul pay, and seniority. Benefits improve with stronger bidding power for preferred routes and schedules.

Captain (and Senior Captain) The final stage is promotion to Captain, where the pilot assumes full command responsibility for the aircraft, crew, and flight safety. Senior Captains may also qualify as Training Captains or Examiners. Time to command is typically 10–20+ years from joining, varying with fleet growth and personal performance. Entry-level Captains earn a target annual salary between SGD 235,000–250,000, while senior and long-haul Captains commonly reach SGD 285,000–355,000+ (including all allowances and productivity pay). At this level, pilots enjoy maximum bidding priority and the highest overall compensation.

Other Benefits

Regardless of rank, all Singapore Airlines pilots receive excellent family travel concessions (unlimited discounted and annual free travel on SIA and partner airlines), comprehensive medical and dental coverage, loss-of-licence and life insurance, a company pension/provident fund contribution, profit-sharing bonuses based on company performance, variable productivity and duty allowances, generous annual leave (typically 32 days or more), and access to world-class recurrent training. Singapore Airlines’ long-haul roster and high operational standards support a strong professional reputation and competitive work-life balance for a premium carrier.

This program is designed to give you the best possible chance of success in joining one of the most respected airlines in the world.

Please note: These progression timelines and salary figures are approximate and based on 2025/2026 data. Actual advancement can be faster during periods of fleet expansion.

More details about the program and its phases:

  • Phase 1 - Enrollment & Review

Enrollment process is done 100% online, via Aerocadet website and Singapore Airlines employment application portal. Pilots need to fill out the enrollment form located here first, and select "Singapore Airlines Pathway Program" from the selected options. Pilots will need to upload their passport, licenses, proof of funding, and fill out flight time declaration form. After this pilots are advised to (1) register and (2) fill out the Singapore Airlines Second Officer vacancy application form via SIA job application portal located here.

Candidates submit an online application will be uploading a detailed CV, logbook summary, licence copies, and flight hours. Minimum requirements usually include a valid CPL/IR, ATPL theory passes (or equivalent), ICAO English Level 4+, and relevant total time (often 250+ hours, with preference for 1500 hours of total flight time and a full, unrestricted ATPL). Applications are screened for basic eligibility before any invitation is issued.

  • Phase 2 - HR Interview & Psychometric Test

Shortlisted applicants receive an invitation to complete Aon/Cut-e aptitude and psychometric tests (done remotely at home within a set deadline). These usually include:

  • Multitasking / hand-eye coordination
  • Spatial orientation
  • Inductive / logical reasoning
  • Reaction speed, monitoring, and other cognitive tests

You can also expect to complete an online psychological/personality assessments and basic aptitude tests either before or after the video interview (see Raven progressive matrices tests

Interview

All interviews take place in Singapore. Shortlisted candidates usually attend a preliminary or initial interview that is primarily HR-focused, although it may sometimes include technical questions. This is followed by a final panel interview with senior management and management pilots, covering both technical knowledge and HR-related topics. Some candidates are also invited to a Tea Party or group assessment session to evaluate their interpersonal skills and team fit. Only those who successfully pass these interview stages are invited to the simulator assessment, which is normally conducted on a Boeing 737 full-motion simulator. The entire pre-simulator process is highly competitive, with all in-person stages held in Singapore. Shortlisting and invitations can take several weeks.

  • Phase 3 - Assessment Preparation

Our Assessment Preparation Curriculum

The B737 assessment preparation for SIA will be conducted by instructors familiar with SIA's profile and standards, and will include the following prep hours:

• 4 hours PF (Pilot Flying) per student
• Additional experience in PM (Pilot Monitoring) role during paired crew operations
• Total practical exposure: 8 hours per student (PF + PM)
• Profiles modeled on airline selection assessments, including SIA-style scenarios
• Includes typical airline entry-level procedures: airport profiles, approaches, go-arounds,
area maneuvers, and general handling
• Detailed methodology, techniques, and program structure remain FAIR’s proprietary
know-how.

Simulator Assessment Specifics

Aircraft Type Used The simulator assessment is conducted on a Boeing 737 Classic full-motion simulator. Our preparation curriculum for the SIA applicantsuse the Boeing 737-800 NG simulator. Since the handling characteristics are very similar, training on the 737-800 provides excellent preparation. SIA does not use any of its own wide-body aircraft (A350, B777, B787, or A380) for recruitment assessments. Instead, they use this common and accessible jet platform to evaluate basic handling skills and overall trainability. This makes prep for SIA assessment much easier than the prep for Cathay assessment, which uses own sims and a mix of various aircraft platforms.

Typical Simulator Assessment Profile & Scenarios The simulator session usually lasts 30 to 45 minutes per candidate. Applicants normally fly as Pilot Flying (PF) for the main profile, with a possible short segment as Pilot Monitoring. The assessment focuses primarily on raw data and manual instrument flying skills, precision, instrument scan, and overall attitude/trainability rather than type-specific knowledge.

A typical profile includes most or all of the following manoeuvres in roughly this sequence: a short briefing of 10–15 minutes covering cockpit familiarisation and basic 737 SOPs, followed by basic handling exercises such as straight and level flight at assigned altitudes and speeds, climbing and descending turns, and steep turns at 45 degrees of bank while maintaining altitude and speed. This is followed by precision instrument flying, which usually includes inbound and outbound VOR tracking and a raw data ILS approach without the flight director — this is one of the most heavily emphasised elements. A visual approach is often included, and candidates should also be prepared for simple emergencies such as an engine failure on approach or go-around, although these are not always given.

Key Assessment Criteria: Assessors look for smooth and precise control inputs, accurate instrument scan, strict altitude/heading/speed discipline, good crew communication with standard callouts, effective workload management, and clear trainability — how quickly the candidate adapts and improves during the session. A professional attitude and calmness under pressure are also very important.

The profile is deliberately basic. SIA is not testing advanced jet handling or type-rated procedures. They simply want to confirm that the candidate can hand-fly a jet accurately with minimal aids and that they demonstrate the potential to become a safe and trainable pilot.

Important Notes: The simulator assessment normally takes place after the technical and HR interviews and is held in Singapore (although some past campaigns included overseas locations). Only shortlisted candidates are invited, and results are usually provided shortly afterwards. The success rate is competitive — many low-hour CPL holders pass when well prepared, while some experienced pilots fail due to weak raw-data technique or poor attitude.

Best Preparation Advice: Candidates who have successfully passed strongly recommend completing a dedicated 1–2 day B737 airline simulator assessment preparation course with an instructor familiar with the SIA profile. Focus heavily on raw-data ILS approaches, steep turns, and precise speed and altitude control. It is also essential to practise standard 737 SOPs and callouts.

  • Phase 4 - Panel Interview

This is the main panel interview. It is conducted with a larger group, typically 4–7 interviewers, including:

  • Senior management pilots (Captains)
  • HR representatives
  • Occasionally technical specialists (e.g., engineers)

This final panel interview is more in-depth, covering both technical questions and HR/behavioural questions. It is held in Singapore along with other assessment stages.

Many candidates describe the final panel as formal and somewhat intimidating due to the number of interviewers, but it is manageable with good preparation.

The panel interview normally comes before the simulator assessment. Only candidates who perform well in the interviews advance to the sim.

  • Phase 5 - English Test

This is conducted as part of the final assessment (sometimes on Day 2 or 3). It is a standard ICAO Level 4+ test focusing on aviation English in operational scenarios. Most experienced pilots pass if their spoken English is already at a professional standard, but it is formally assessed here.

  • Phase 6 - Medical Examination

A comprehensive Class 1 medical (including blood, urine, and hair tests in some reports) is arranged in Singapore, usually after the interview/sim stages or as the last hurdle. It is conducted at an approved facility and must meet Cathay’s strict standards.

Program Terms & Conditions

Please review - its important!

While we will make every effort to support your success throughout the Second Officer or First Officer application and selection process with Singapore Airlines, it is important to understand that final selection cannot be guaranteed. Your performance during the official assessment in Singapore — particularly in the B737 full-flight simulator — as well as your results in the technical evaluations, panel interview, and aptitude assessments, will play a critical role in the airline’s decision.

Singapore Airlines will also closely evaluate your progress and performance during the initial type rating, ground school, simulator training, and final line check. If your performance falls below the airline’s required standards at any stage, Singapore Airlines reserves the right to withdraw the Conditional Job Offer.

To give you the best possible chance of success, our Singapore Airlines assessment preparation is delivered through Aerocadet’s specialist training partners. This dedicated program provides high-quality, airline-specific training carefully tailored to Singapore Airlines’s current simulator profiles, procedures, and evaluation standards.

Ab-initio Students Without CPL

If you do not hold a pilot license, Aerocadet provides integrated flight training programs with internship

Aerocadet offers fully comprehensive flight training programs across the United States, Canada, and Europe, designed to equip future pilots with the skills, qualifications, and career pathways needed for long-term success in the aviation industry. Each program features high-quality flight instruction and rigorous academic coursework under the oversight of some of the world’s most respected and safety-focused aviation authorities, including the FAA, TCCA, and EASA. Graduates receive highly desirable Commercial Pilot Licenses and Flight Instructor Certificates, ensuring they are well-positioned for employment in competitive airline environments.

Singapore Airlines, like most major airlines, publishes both minimum and preferred requirements for pilot positions. While the official minimum requirements are relatively accessible — an ICAO Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR), passes in ATPL theory exams from the same licensing authority, and a minimum of 250 hours total flight time — the preferred qualifications are what will make you a truly competitive candidate and significantly increase your chances of being selected.

In practice, successful applicants typically hold a full ICAO ATPL (or CPL with unrestricted ATPL theory credits) issued by a reputable aviation authority from a developed country with strong oversight and minimal issues of corruption in the training industry. They also bring at least 1,000–1,500 hours of total flight time, ideally gained through structured instructor or charter/multi-crew operations, along with excellent references from previous employers.

This is why Aerocadet integrates guaranteed flight instructor internship and hour-building up to 1500 hours with all our pro-pilot programs!

For applicants specifically interested in pursuing Singapore Airlines Second Officer career pathway, we highly recommend enrolling in Aerocadet’s ab-initio flight training program in the United Sattes or European Union, conducted under FAA or EASA certification. EASA is especially recommended, because EASA ATPL theoretical exams closely mirror those of Singapore ATPL, allowing for a smooth and efficient license transition process—making it the ideal foundation for future employment with Cathay.

Program type Duration  Cost (USD)
Pro-pilot program in the United States 12 months approx $78,000
Pro-pilot program in Canada 18-24 months approx $88,000
