FlyDubai, founded in 2008, is a rapidly growing low-cost airline headquartered in Dubai, serving an extensive network across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Asia. Its fleet primarily consists of Boeing 737 Next Generation (NG) and 737 MAX aircraft, with additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners on order to support future long-haul expansion. Although flyDubai operates independently, it shares a strong strategic partnership with Emirates, providing mutual benefits to both passengers and aviation professionals. Importantly, flyDubai First Officers who accumulate around 2,000 flight hours over three years are well-positioned to transition to Emirates, making the airline a valuable stepping stone within Dubai’s thriving aviation hub.
Embarking on a career with flyDubai offers graduates of Aerocadet’s fully integrated flight training program an exceptional opportunity to enter the global aviation industry through one of the region’s fastest-growing carriers. This is a fantastic new program for pilots targeting long-term careers with Middle Eastern airlines, including future advancement opportunities with top-tier operators like Emirates.
As of May 2025, this Pathway program is also open for the graduates of other flight training courses, who hold valid and current ICAO commercial or airline transport pilot licenses, with multi-engine and instrument ratings, at least 220 hours of flight time (simulator time does not count), class 1 medical and ICAO radio-telephony or FCC license.
This program outline addresses the most frequently asked questions about how to apply for pilot employment with flyDubai, the eligibility criteria for its Second Officer (Junior First Officer) program, what to expect during the two-day CAE/flyDubai assessment process, and how Aerocadet’s tailored training—delivered through strategic international partnerships—can significantly improve your chances of success.

More details about the program and its phases:
Enrollment process is done 100% online, via Aerocadet website. Pilots need to fill out the enrollment form located here, and select "flyDubai Pathway Program" from the selected options. Pilots will need to upload their passport, licenses, proof of funding, and fill out flight time declaration form.
To be eligible for flydubai’s Second Officer (Junior First Officer) program, applicants must be between 20 and 35 years of age and hold at least a high school diploma or its equivalent. A minimum English Language Proficiency (ELP) level 4—equivalent to an upper-intermediate level or IELTS Academic score of 6.0—is required. Candidates must also possess a valid First Class Medical Certificate issued by the FAA, EASA, or TCCA. For those with FAA or TCCA credentials, a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) with Instrument Rating (IR) and Multi-Engine (AMEL) rating is necessary. EASA graduates must hold an ATPL (Frozen) with equivalent ratings. In addition, applicants must have logged a minimum of 220 total flight hours, excluding simulator or FTD time. Pilots from most ICAO-compliant CPL or ATPL backgrounds are welcome to apply, provided their licenses and training meet flydubai’s entry criteria.
Those pilots who do not have the required qualifications, or starting from Zero level, can apply for flight training admission into one of Aerocadet's full flight training and internship programs either in the European Union (Romania) or United States (Florida) or Canada (Vancouver). (Program in the EU is recommended for flyDubai Pathway)
Before we can schedule your assessment preparation session in Dubai, you will need to complete approximately two weeks of self-study to ensure you are adequately prepared. This preparation includes a short Computer-Based Training (CBT) module covering Boeing 737 systems, as well as a detailed review of the aircraft's lights and switches. In addition, you will need to familiarize yourself with cognitive and aptitude evaluations, particularly the Raven Progressive Matrices test, which is one of the key components of the assessment conducted at CAE Dubai. This pre-assessment study phase is essential to help you perform confidently and successfully during the official evaluation.
Once the CBT is completed, pilots will travel to the UAE to begin a comprehensive three-session flyDubai assessment preparation program conducted by Boeing 737 airline captains from Sharp Aviation, Dubai. This preparation includes an initial online Boeing 737 systems and cockpit introduction course, which must be completed at least three weeks prior to the pilot’s arrival in Dubai. Upon arrival, candidates will undergo four hours of assessment profile training in a Boeing 737 Flight Training Device (FTD), followed by two focused coaching sessions designed to prepare them for both the technical and HR interview panels.
Assessment preparation is essential because the evaluation takes place in a full-motion Boeing 737NG simulator, which can be extremely challenging for pilots without prior jet or B737 experience. Transitioning from propeller aircraft to a complex jet cockpit involves a steep learning curve, and without proper preparation, candidates are likely to feel overwhelmed and underperform. To maximize success, Aerocadet offers a structured training program led by active Boeing 737NG airline captains, providing the skills, confidence, and systems knowledge necessary to perform well during the assessment and secure a position with flyDubai.
Once you complete your assessment preparation, you’ll proceed directly to the official flyDubai two-day assessment, held at CAE’s Dubai Silicon Oasis center.
On Day One, you’ll undergo a Boeing 737NG Level D full-flight simulator evaluation, beginning with a detailed briefing (previously provided via email), followed by a simulator session in randomly assigned two-pilot crews.
Day Two focuses on computer-based aptitude and personality testing to assess problem-solving, multitasking, and team compatibility. Successful candidates will receive a Conditional Job Offer (CJO) from flyDubai, with the condition being license conversion and completion of a flyDubai-specific B737 type rating at CAE Dubai.
After passing the GCAA exams, pilots can schedule their flyDubai B737NG/MAX type rating with CAE, which must begin within one year of completing the assessment. The course costs $33,000 USD and takes about two months to complete. Candidates can choose when to start within the allowed timeframe—those needing additional funds can return to their school for paid flight instructor internships offered through Aerocadet programs. During the final simulator session, two examiners—one from CAE for the type rating and one from flyDubai for the Second Officer evaluation—will assess your performance. To pass, candidates must complete the ATPL and B737 check-ride in a two-hour session, a standard requirement across global airlines. Most pilots (90–95%) pass on the first attempt.
Keep in mind that the Boeing 737 type rating at CAE Dubai is not a standard course—it is specifically tailored and certified to meet flyDubai’s unique operational requirements. The program includes 18 hours of systems integration training on Boeing 737 Fixed Training Devices (FTDs) and 52 hours in a full-motion Boeing 737 simulator. Pilots who successfully complete the type rating and fulfill all employment conditions are eligible to begin working with flyDubai, with employment typically starting within 1 to 3 months after course completion.
Once selected for the Second Officer position, newly hired pilots at flyDubai begin an intensive initial training program designed to ensure smooth integration into the airline's operational environment. This training includes classroom instruction, aircraft systems review, and procedures training tailored to flyDubai's Boeing 737 fleet. Following ground school and simulator sessions, pilots proceed to sector training, where they fly real-world line sectors under the supervision of experienced training captains. This phase allows Second Officers to gain hands-on experience in live operations while reinforcing standard operating procedures and crew coordination. Successful completion of initial and sector training marks the transition into active line flying duties with flyDubai.
Please review - its important!
While we will make every effort to support your success throughout the Second Officer application and selection process, it is important to understand that final selection cannot be guaranteed. Your performance during the official assessment—particularly in the Boeing 737 simulator—as well as your results on pilot aptitude and technical evaluations, will play a critical role in flyDubai’s decision. The airline will also evaluate your progress and performance during the type rating, training phases, and final check ride. If your performance is found to be below the required standards at any stage, flyDubai reserves the right to rescind the Conditional Job Offer. To give you the best chance of success, assessment preparation in the UAE is conducted through Aerocadet’s specialist training partners under a dedicated contract, ensuring high-quality, airline-focused preparation tailored specifically for flyDubai’s assessment process.
If you do not hold a pilot license, Aerocadet provides integrated flight training programs with internship
Aerocadet offers fully comprehensive flight training programs across the United States, Canada, and Europe, designed to equip future pilots with the skills, qualifications, and career pathways needed for long-term success in the aviation industry. Each program features high-quality flight instruction and rigorous academic coursework under the oversight of some of the world’s most respected and safety-focused aviation authorities, including the FAA, TCCA, and EASA. Graduates receive highly desirable Commercial Pilot Licenses and Flight Instructor Certificates, ensuring they are well-positioned for employment in competitive airline environments.
What truly sets Aerocadet apart is the guaranteed pilot internship included in every training track. This internship ensures that graduates begin earning a salary immediately upon completion of their training—an essential advantage for those who need to begin repaying student loans without delay.
For applicants specifically interested in pursuing the flyDubai Second Officer career pathway, we highly recommend enrolling in Aerocadet’s ab-initio flight training program in the European Union, conducted under EASA certification. The EASA ATPL theoretical exams closely mirror those of the GCAA, allowing for a smooth and efficient license transition process—making it the ideal foundation for future employment with flyDubai.
For pilots considering which flight training program best suits their career goals, Aerocadet offers three of the most popular and effective pathways across the United States, Canada, and the European Union. Each program is tailored to meet regional licensing requirements while maintaining the highest standards of safety, instruction, and career readiness. Whether you choose the FAA-based training in the U.S., the TCCA-licensed pathway in Canada, or the EASA-certified program in the EU, all three routes provide top-tier flight education, respected commercial and instructor licenses, and guaranteed pilot internships—ensuring a smooth transition from training to paid employment.
Program type | Duration | Cost (USD) |
---|---|---|
Pro-pilot program in the United States | 12 months | $88,675+ |
Pro-pilot program in Canada | 18 months | $88,550+ |
Pro-pilot program in Europe (recommended) | 18 months | $67,250 |
A separate program comparions page is available here for more information. All of the above ab-initio programs can be combined with the flyDubai career pathway. However, pilots training under the FAA (USA) or TCCA (Canada) systems should note that converting their licenses to the GCAA (UAE) standard may take 2 to 3 months, compared to the faster 2 to 3 weeks typically required for EASA license holders.

Dubai offers a diverse range of accommodation options to suit every budget, from economical hostels to luxurious hotels and stylish Airbnb rentals. Aerocadet allows pilots enrolled in the flyDubai Pathway program to book their own accommodation in Dubai, recognizing that each applicant has unique budget constraints and personal preferences for their stay. With students coming from diverse backgrounds and regions across the globe, flexibility in housing choices ensures that everyone can find lodging that suits their comfort level and financial situation. Whether you prefer a budget hotel, a private Airbnb, or a mid-range serviced apartment, Dubai offers a wide range of options to accommodate every lifestyle and need.
Travelers on a tight budget can find numerous affordable hotels and hostels in areas like Deira, Al Rigga, and Bur Dubai.Prices for budget hotels start as low as $28–$46 per night. For instance, Citymax Bur Dubai offers rooms from $28 per night, while Comfort Inn Hotel in Al Rigga provides accommodations around $39 per night . These options often include amenities such as free Wi-Fi, on-site dining, and convenient access to public transportation.
For those seeking a balance between comfort and cost, mid-range hotels like Rove Downtown and Premier Inn Dubai International Airport offer rooms ranging from $50 to $100 per night. These hotels provide modern amenities, including fitness centers, swimming pools, and complimentary shuttles to popular attractions.
Airbnb offers a variety of accommodations, from private rooms to entire apartments. Prices vary based on location and amenities, with private rooms starting around $50 per night and entire apartments ranging from $80 to $200 per night. For example, a stylish one-bedroom apartment in the prestigious District One area is available, offering direct access to the serene Dubai Crystal Lagoon.
Taking into account all the aforementioned considerations above, you can budget just $300 USD for the initial week of assessment preparation and the actual assessment. One you pass the assessment, you can add another $2700 USD for 9 weeks for the GCAA ATPL exams and Boeing 737 type rating, combined.
Lets talk about your budget planning. We offer several solutions for student and pilot career development loans.
Here, we’ll do our best to provide an accurate estimate of the total cost involved in the flyDubai Pathway program. The initial budget should include the assessment preparation phase, which covers Boeing 737 FTD simulator training, interview coaching conducted by active flyDubai airline captains, and the actual two-day assessment administered by CAE Dubai with flyDubai's authorization. We’ll also factor in the approximate cost of accommodation for the one-week period covering both preparation and assessment. If you pass the assessment, your budget will need to increase to include the GCAA ATPL theoretical exams—14 in total—and, subsequently, the full Boeing 737 type rating. At this point, you may return home or to your flight school to prepare for the exams.
As previously mentioned, EASA ATPL holders typically require about two weeks of preparation, while those with FAA, TCCA, or other ICAO CPL backgrounds may need up to two or three months. Once prepared, you’ll return to Dubai to take the exams, which usually takes about one week since you can complete 2–3 subjects per day (each consisting of 20–30 questions). After passing all exams, you'll schedule your type rating, which will begin approximately 2–3 weeks later and take about two months to complete. Upon finishing the type rating, there may be a short waiting period—typically between one and three months—before you begin active training and employment with flyDubai. You will not need to remain in Dubai during this interim and are free to return home or continue any existing employment until your start date is confirmed. Here is the estimated full cost of this program, with the phase-by-phase break-down:
Phase 1: Before passing the assessment:
Assessment preparation fees, Boeing 737 CBTs and actual assesssment, and GCAA exams preparation CBTs | $5,750 USD |
Phase 2: After passing the assessment:
14 GCAA ATPL Exams: | $1,750 USD |
GCAA Class 1 Medical exam: | $800 |
Phase 3: After passing the GCAA exams and medical:
flyDubai-specific Boeing 737NG type rating | $33,000 USD |
Total estimated cost of this pathway program:
Total estimated cost of flyDubai Pathway Program | $41,300 USD |
Please note that this cost estimate does not include international air travel, as our students come from various countries around the world. The choice of airline, travel route, and departure location can significantly affect the price of airfare. Therefore, each student is responsible for arranging and covering the cost of their own transportation to and from Dubai, based on their individual travel circumstances. Same goes to accommodation - the reasonable options are discussed in the "Accommodation" section above. Students are recommended to budget appoximately $3,000 USD for the accommodation for the entire combined 10-week duration of this course.
Also, it is important for all candidates to understand that if a student fails the Boeing 737 type rating check ride, they will be required to undergo remedial training to address the deficiencies identified during the evaluation. This additional training will involve further sessions in a full-flight simulator, and the cost of these extra sessions will not be covered by the original program fee. Instead, the student will be personally responsible for paying the applicable hourly rates for each simulator session needed to bring their performance up to the required proficiency standards for successful re-evaluation and check ride completion. Please remember: if you fail the check-ride, flyDubai will cancel their job offer. The CJO is conditional on you passing the type-rating check-ride on the first try. However, becase 52 hours in a simulator is three times more flight training time than an average B737 type-rating course in the United States, 99% of pilots have no issues passing the final check-ride.
We have a flexible payment schedule that does not require students to pre-pay for the program in advance.
Aerocadet does not require students to pay for the entire flight training program in advance. We have a payment structure that needs to be followed by all students, with some exception. Students must submit the following payments:
Upon admission and signing of the training agreement: | $5,500 USD |
To GCAA for 14 exams and class 1 medical | $2,550 USD |
to CAE for Boeing 737 type-rating | $33,000 USD |
These fees are estimated in USD. The actual amount may sligtly vary depending on the current exchange rate. |
Eligible applicants can receive student loans to cover up to 100% of their tuition and living expenses.
Our company can provide administrative support in the form of SLAS Package for students to obtain Student Loans from the respective banks and financial institutions in their own country of residence. Such support is offered by providing conditional employment offer letters and training bond contracts. Review the available financing options page here >>>

Don't think this program is for you? That's okay. We have several other program that might suit you better!
Got a question? Hang on, maybe we got an answer for you right here!
No, you do not. No major airine in the Middle East, including Emirates and Qatar, require pilots to hold a degree. Just high school education is sufficient. More information about this topic is available on Aerocadet's blog page here >>>
No, you do not. If you hold an ICAO CPL with ICAO-4 English certificate, you will not need to take IELTS or TOEFL for admission into Pathway program.
Yes, but only at a later stage. Progressing to Emirates requires candidates to hold a full, unrestricted ATPL issued by a developed aviation authority—such as EASA, CAA, FAA, TCCA, or CASA—as well as a minimum of 2,500 total flight hours. Of these, at least 2,000 hours must be logged as pilot on a passenger jet with a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) exceeding 30 tonnes. Therefore, if you currently hold only a CPL or a restricted ATPL (such as a “frozen” EASA ATPL) and do not meet the required flight experience, you are not yet eligible for employment with Emirates. The recommended path is to gain employment with flyDubai, accumulate the necessary jet experience over 3–4 years, and then apply to Emirates once you meet all qualifications.
Yes, but only at a later stage. Advancing to Qatar Airways or Etihad Airways requires candidates to hold a full, unrestricted ATPL issued by a recognized authority such as EASA, FAA, TCCA, CAA, or CASA. In addition, applicants must have a minimum of 2,500 total flight hours, including at least 2,000 hours as pilot on a commercial jet with a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) exceeding 30 tonnes. If you currently hold only a CPL or a restricted ATPL (such as an EASA "frozen" ATPL) and do not yet meet the required flight experience, you are not eligible for direct entry into Qatar or Etihad. The typical path is to build your jet experience—such as by flying for flyDubai—and after 3–4 years, once you have met the required flight time and license criteria, you can become eligible to apply to Qatar Airways or Etihad.
Yes. We, and CAE will provide you with the required paperwork to apply for the UAE visa, if you need to.
While we are committed to supporting your success during the Second Officer application process, final selection is not guaranteed. Your performance in the Boeing 737 simulator, aptitude tests, technical evaluations, and subsequent training phases—including the type rating and final check ride—will determine your eligibility. flyDubai reserves the right to withdraw the Conditional Job Offer if standards are not met. To maximize your chances, Aerocadet provides airline-specific assessment preparation in the UAE through expert training partners.
Yes, you can—and in fact, you should—complete the B737 type rating to have it endorsed on your GCAA ATPL license. However, if you fail the check ride, flyDubai will not proceed with your employment, even if you later retake the check ride and pass. That said, holding a GCAA ATPL with a B737 type rating remains a valuable asset and can significantly enhance your prospects when applying to other airlines in the region. Also, if you are coming from Aerocadet's FPAP-EU, or any other Aerocadet's full professional pilot program, you can promptly return to our school to continue working as instructor.
No, you do not. You can pay $5750 for the initial assessment preparation and the actual assesssment, get a CJO, and then come up with the rest of cash if you decide to proceed with further training and employment.
Normally, CAE wants you to start the type-rating not later than 12 months after passing the assessment. This is because your assessment results are valid for only 1 year. If you miss this time-frame to any reason, you will need to re-take the full assessment.
No. All the required computer based training (CBTs), including B737 systems and GCAA ATPL exams are included in the program cost estimate.
Aerocadet does not provide food as part of its training services, as our student body is highly diverse, with individuals from various cultural and religious backgrounds, each with unique dietary needs and preferences. To respect these differences and ensure that every student can adhere to their personal dietary practices, we leave the responsibility of meals to the students themselves. This approach allows each student the flexibility to choose and prepare food that aligns with their individual health, cultural, or religious requirements.
No, you need to have all the required ratings. This is why all the professional ratings are included into all of the Aerocadet's professional pilot programs. If you did your training outside of our program and need the ratings - please speak to one of our consultants to discuss your options.
No, you need to have all the required flight time. This is why up to 1500 hours of actual flight time is included into all of the Aerocadet's professional pilot programs. If you did your training outside of our program and need the hours - please speak to one of our consultants to discuss your options.
Yes, but you will need at least 1,500 hours of total flight time and a full, unrestricted ATPL issued by a developed aviation authority to be both eligible and competitive for such employment opportunities. Many reputable airlines—including Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, EVA Air, Copa Airlines, and others—are actively hiring international pilots who meet these qualifications. If you still need to obtain a full ATPL and build the required 1,500 hours, we encourage you to explore our career development program for ICAO CPL holders in the United States here >>>
