Oshawa is a city located in the province of Ontario, Canada. It is situated on the northern shore of Lake Ontario, approximately 60 kilometers (37 miles) east of Toronto. The city of Oshawa covers an area of approximately 145 square kilometers (56 square miles) and is the largest municipality in the Durham Region. It is a relatively flat area, with a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial development. Oshawa has a rich history in the automotive industry, with the General Motors of Canada headquarters located in the city for many years. In addition to manufacturing, the city is home to a number of educational institutions, including the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and Durham College.

Campus is located in the greater Toronto area. Students are eligible for 20 hours p/w off-campus employment immediately after the program commencement.
Part-time employment
While studying full-time, the international students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week at any off-campus employment. Most take entry-level unskilled minimum-pay jobs at local restaurants or supermarkets. The pay is normally enough to provide students with the basic living expenses. Once the training period is complete, students will be allowed to apply for a higher-paid flight instructor positions with the flight academy.
The minimum salary for international students working part-time jobs in Canada is $11.06 CAN ($8.40 USD) per hour. Providing that a student works 80 hours per month, he/she can expect to earn approximately $884.80 CAN ($672.00 USD). There is no income tax on earnings below $8500 CAN per year. Earnings above $8500 CAN are taxed at 15%.

Arriving with a spouse
Can I bring my wife or husband? Yes, if you are legally married in your country and decide to bring your spouse (husband or wife) to Canada, they may be eligible for an open work permit that will allow them to work on or off campus, full-time, while you study. Such strategy may be useful if you need an additional income to support your living expenses while you undergo aviation training phase (18-24 months). An open work permit is a work permit that is not job-specific, so it is the same as if you were working as a student. In general, it allows your spouse to accept any job with any employer in Canada. If your spouse gets an open work permit, it is normally valid for the same period as your study permit (24 months). In some cases, your spouse will need a medical exam.
Who is eligible? You must be able to show marriage documents to the goverment organization when applying for the spousal work permit. You, as a person studying on a valid student permit, will have to fill out the form as your spouse's sponsor.
When should my spouse apply? Your spouse can apply for an open work permit before or after they arrive in Canada. (We recommed that they apply after you arrive in Canada). Most spouses come to Canada as visitors first and apply for a work permit after they are already in Canada. This strategy increases your (student's) chances for successfull Student Permit application and approval during the intitial application with the Canadian consulate. Alternatively, Canadian consulate officers will process spouse work permit application at the same time as your (student's) study permit application. In this case, you will need to include the additional fee for the work permit and complete the work permit application for your spouse (available on the consulate website). However, if you apply for the student permit and spousal work permit concurrently - it may serve as an indication to the Canadain consulate officials that you are at a higher risk of staying in Canada permanently and your intent to leave Canada after completion of training is not sufficient to grant you a Student Permit in the first place. Bear this in mind when deciding what route you want to take for your spouse's work permit application.
What are the Work Permit Conditions? Work permits issued by Canadian Consulate may be subject to restrictions. International students who were not required to undergo an immigration medical examination before coming to Canada may be subject to the following occupation/workplace restrictions that require an immigration medical examination.
