Can I Work in Canada While Flight-training?

Work in Canada While Flight-training

Many applicants ask us: Can I work in Canada while I study? And if I can – how much will I make every month?
The answer is – Yes, and 2024 is bringing exciting news – up to 66% higher minimum wages are coming to Canada-West Campus!

While studying full-time, the international students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week at any off-campus employment.

Most take entry-level unskilled minimum-pay jobs at local restaurants, coffee shops or supermarkets. The pay is normally enough to cover students their basic living expenses – rent and food. Once the training period is over, students will be allowed to apply for a higher-paid flight instructor positions with the flight academy, which starts from $35 CAD per hour.

The minimum salary for international students working part-time jobs in Canada – British Columbia (our Canada West Campus) is projected to be $16.75 CAD per hour ($12.50 USD) in 2024. That’s a 66% increase from $11.09 CAD minimum wage in 2023! Providing that a student works 80 hours per month, he/she can expect to earn at least $1340 CAD ($1000 USD). (This estimate is based on the minimum legal wage in BC – Canada. Many employers pay higher than minimum wage.)  There is no income tax on earnings below $8500 CAN per year. Earnings above $8500 CAN are taxed at 15%.

Students can use several portals to check the employment availability and pay-rates near the flight center.

Some of them are:

Please note: when applying for the Canadian student permit, the Canadian consulate wants to see proof of funds available for financing of the entire flight training program you are enrolling into. Only living expenses are allowed to be earned as a part-time salary while you are training in Canada – not the tuition fees. If you need financing for your tuition fees – please visit our Financing Page.
